L'appuntamento a Urbino

 -2018 -

The appointment in Urbino  -2018 -

.....a long journey in the company of my son, for a great appointment with a precious lady described by the magnificent Raffaello Sanzio.       Her nickname is 'la Muta', which didn't seem silent to me when I met her, on the contrary she spoke to me from an ancient time about her through her details described with colors and brushes, spectacular three-dimensions and with a lot of reference I have let her talk about herself and her past.    Probably her name was Giovanna Feltria della Rovere, daughter of Francesco del Montefeltro and she was the patroness of the divine painter Sanzio R. who portrayed her in 1505, so that he could speak to us without opening his mouth about her and her world in our different time and unimaginable for her.    Certainly my desire, if not intense passion, has come true, and even if it is her destiny, I was sorry to leave her to the gaze of others. She will continue to talk about herself and her time to all those who wish to have her in them, certain that she will not be forgotten by anyone who has met her.

---------------- <> ------------------

sergio valota's academic training is an incontrovertible fact: the hand is trained and the figure is full and convincing. Easy to judge. One cannot express oneself equally simply for his painting: like any experimentalism often "contaminated" by happy suggestions, obtaining a critical analysis of an artist like Sergio Valota requires attendance and a visual "review" far beyond quick glances. We agree, classical culture remains a fundamental fact that can never be scratched, as well as, philosophically and pictorially speaking, the continuous reference to existentialist-metaphysical poetics. The binomial, we know, is a noble and well-known thing, think of De Chirico for example. But if, at first glance, Sergio Valota adheres to the principle that "nothing is done and nothing is destroyed", the artist is capable of a very personal technical-philosophical regeneration. Sergio Valota's painting is, more exactly, an expressionist metaphysics. At a first and superficial recognition of this artist, one has the clear sensation of a known and, so to speak, certain and sure Italian tradition. However, after a few moments one becomes aware of a "quid" which, imperceptibly, almost, does not coincide with the tradition mentioned above. Sergio Valota's metaphysics goes beyond the compressed and tense immobility of metaphysics, especially Italian. The artist "is afraid" of the prisons of the mind (pass the expression): it is evident that the emotional component tends, here and there, to overflow beyond the edge of the metaphysical "divine indifference". The faces and figures lose the balance of sharp geometry and sometimes twist and move in a mannerist manner. Sergio Valota can't wait: the expressions are painted on the faces and surprise seems to be the sentiment most intuited in this painting which - a miracle of the subjective gaze - even has the distant flavor of some of the walls of a Diego Rivera or an Orozco. Sergio Valota is an genial artist who cannot fail to intrigue: he is decidedly hermetic, like the gaze he shows off in conversation, never cold or banal.
